COVID-19 is a terrible sickness but there’s another disease that’s infected us all.
Fortunately, there’s a cure, if we’re only willing to accept it.
A man is driving along a highway and sees a rabbit jump out across the middle of the road. He swerves to avoid hitting it, but unfortunately the rabbit jumps right in front of the car. The driver, a sensitive man as well as an animal lover, pulls over and gets out to see what has become of the rabbit. Much to his dismay, the rabbit is dead. The driver feels so awful that he begins to cry. A woman with long blond hair driving down the highway sees the man crying on the side of the road and pulls over. She steps out of her car and asks the man what's wrong. "I feel terrible," he explains, "I accidentally hit this rabbit and killed it." The woman says, "Don't worry."
She runs to her car and pulls out a spray can. She walks over to the limp, dead rabbit, bends down, and sprays the contents onto the rabbit. The rabbit jumps up, waves its paw at the two of them and hops off down the road. Ten feet away the rabbit stops, turns around and waves again, he hops down the road another 10 feet, turns and waves, hops another ten feet, turns and waves, and repeats this again and again and again, until he hops out of sight. The man is astonished. He runs over to the woman and demands, "What is in that can? What did you spray on that rabbit!?" The woman turns the can around so that the man can read the label. It says, “Hair Spray — Restores life to dead hair, and adds permanent wave.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could be revitalized so easily? Pull out an aerosol can, and we hop right up! The permanent wave might get a little old, but hey, at least we’re alive again! To be honest, human beings have the same problem as the rabbit in this joke. Ephesians 2:1 says, “Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins.” As bad as the COVID-19 virus is, sin is far worse and is a disease that’s infected every single one of us. Romans 3:23 says, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” Sin doesn’t simply make us sick, it’s a fatal disease 100% of the time. We would be no better off than roadkill, without hope, if it weren’t for God’s great love for us. As it says in Ephesians 2:4-5, “But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!”
Have you received the gift of God’s salvation? Have you been brought back to life or are you still dead in sin? Don’t just lie there dead on the road, God longs for you to come back to life. To live the full, rich life you were designed to live when He created you. No matter what you’re going through right now, and a lot of us are struggling because of the corona virus pandemic, God has a much better future planned for you. Repent of your sins and turn back to God. Receive the gift of salvation and new life God offers to you. Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord and you will be made alive in Christ.
